It is now gone.

The Shoot Out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival Boulder with the support of the Boulder Arts Commission is excited to announce a series of pre-Shoot Out workshops again. These events are designed to help prepare the filmmakers for The Shoot Out Boulder which will occur on September 25-27, 2009.

These day long events will inspire film-makers to make a fast film while teaching them the methodology of successful short-form storytelling, lighting, directing, and in-camera editing. Special emphasis will be paid to The Shoot Out’s official format and requirements.

Or have some experience and want to push yourself further? Then this filmmaker’s intensive is for you! Create and shoot a short film in one day using proven filmmaking tactics. Start by working with time, place, and character limitations to write a five-minute group inspired script. Then get help devising a storyboard, making a shot list, blocking out scenes, and directing using only in-camera editing techniques. Using a class supplied video camera, you will learn best practice techniques including professional audio and lighting tips. After a short lunch break, everyone gets to experience what they have learned: directing, acting, lighting, and shooting. Invite friends and family to view the completed short film at 4:30 p.m.

The most number of films an actor has appeared in was 8 in 2004. Last year, we have 53 filmmaking teams competing so there is plenty of great opportunity to get yourself some film time!

After you register online and pay the nominal $45 fee which includes a ticket to the Sunday screening event at the Historic Boulder Theater, you will show up at the kick-off of the event in front of the Boulder County Court House on the 1300 Block of Pearl Street by 6 PM on Friday, September 25, 2009 with copies of your headshot with phone number and a cell phone in your hand as a means for the registered producers to contact you. It is up to your to “sell” yourself to the other teams as you will not be automatically placed by the event organizers.

Depending upon the pool of actors competing for the Shooting Star, we will organize some other opportunities for exposure as the time draw nears. Stay tuned!

The Shoot Out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival Boulder (September 25-27, 2009) asks filmmakers to trust their courage, imagination and determination by making a 7-minute film in just 24 hours.
While there will be no event in Newcastle in July, The Shoot Out flag will be flying high over Boulder Colorado in September, 25-27, 2009 and planning has already begun for The Shoot Out Newcastle 2010.

There will be no The Shoot Out 24 Hour Filmmaking Festival in Newcastle in 2009 with the announcement by festival directors Teresa Conicella, Craig Foot and Kristi Street that they are taking a year off. After 10 years of blood, sweat and tears the hard working trio have decided to declare this a holiday year and are treating themselves to a few work free weekends.

“Organising and staging The Shoot Out requires a huge personal commitment from each of us and we’ve decided to take a year out to focus on other projects and interests.”

Kristi Street, Director.

While there will be no event in Newcastle in July, The Shoot Out flag will be flying high over Boulder Colorado in September, 25-27, 2009 and planning has already begun for The Shoot Out Newcastle 2010.

“We don’t want our filmmakers to stop making films. In fact we’ll be using this time to think up new and exciting ways to challenge them in the future.” Craig Foot, Director

Since 1999 The Shoot Out team has challenged over 20,000 filmmakers to make over 3,000 short films in 6 different territories; Newcastle, Geelong(VIC), Toowoomba(QLD), New Zealand, Boulder USA and The Hague (Netherlands).

“The Shoot Out has become so much more than just a one off event, it is now a community of filmmakers who have all been inspired by their experiences at the festival.“

Teresa Conicella, Director

The Shoot Out Filmmaking Festival challenges it’s filmmakers to a 24 hour race against time to make the best 7 minute, or less, film they can. The result is a weekend long festival that The Shoot Out filmmakers and audiences alike describe as exhilarating, fast paced and most importantly FUN!
